Saying, "Thank you Jesus"

I car pool with a friend to work every day and if something good happens in her favor she will always say, "Thank you Jesus." Example: We pull up to a light and as we are approaching she will say thank you..... We will go down the road a little bit more and someone might move out of her way into another lane which allows us to pass everyone by. She will then say again, oh thank you....

Background: She attends a community church (Grace Community) and is some what knowledgeable of the scriptures but misapplies them. I am currently talking to her and have invited her several times to worship services. She has come several times and always agrees with what's being said.

It bothers me that she says this all time and I'm wondering if she thinks that Jesus is really doing these things. If you have any thoughts and opinions about this please share. I would love to hear them.

Ryan and I were talking about this. To us, it's not so much would we condemn it (probably not) but is it really appropriate? I guess this kind of goes along the same lines as my question on saying "goodness"..

Look at instances in the Bible where we see people truly thanking God for blessings in their life, does it include a red light turning green? Yes, we are always to be thankful, but it's kind of like praying to God for a new car. That's just how I see it.

If anyone feels differently, please share!

:)

I think it is great that your friend is coming to services with you and you never know what could happen just through the example you are setting before her. If she comes with you then she is hearing the truth and that could possibly one day open the door for a Bible study. I agree with what Amy said in her response as well. My friend who is Pentecostal usually always will say "Thank You Jesus" to everything. It goes along with what they have been taught, and the people who are around them. However, that is not saying that something couldn't change if they have the right people around them. It is true that we need to truely be thankful for everything that we have. When we do things it is not a bad idea to even say, " If the Lord wills, or Lord willingly" since it teaches that in the scripture. Since we do not know what another day may bring. I will keep praying about your friend that she might learn the truth through your example.
